The idea is to post here, strange, ugly, abnormal, absurd, weird, curious, etc news or stories. I think Jim would love this. He was said to like this suff, testing people's reactions.

Police were tonight investigating claims from the granddaughter of Fascist dictator Benito Mussolini that part of his brains had been offered for sale on eBay.
Alessandra Mussolini called police after being tipped off that three glass phials holding his brains and blood in a wooden box, and a photocopy of autopsy documents were posted on the auction site with a 15,000 Euro price tag.
Mussolini led Italy for more than 20 years. At the end of the Second World War he was shot with his mistress Claretta Petacci and their bodies hung upside down from a petrol station in Milan.
Following his execution his body was taken to a hospital in the city and his brain was removed on orders of the Americans and sent to a top secret military base for examination - and never returned.
Alessandra, who is a right wing MP, was tipped off about the sale during a conference and immediately went to a police station in Naples and reported the offer as well as telling officials at the Ministry of Communications

Hundreds of rotting deer carcasses in a southwestern Pennsylvania yard are causing a stink among the neighbors. Randy Good of North Buffalo Township has a contract with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to remove the animal carcasses from roads in five counties.

Good says he has been picking up 50 to 100 carcasses a day. To cope with demand, he has been dumping a few hundred at a time in his yard. He says weekend landfill closures and a broken truck have worsened the backlog.

Neighbors a half-mile away say they have resorted to burning candles in their homes to mask the stench.

Good says he has gotten a trash container that will help, but it will take a week or two to remove them all.

Sting said he also experienced flying objects and mysterious voices in one of his homes in an interview to be aired by Radio 2 tomorrow.

He said: "I would never have said I believe in ghosts, until I saw one - and I've seen a ghost with my own eyes."

The musician, whose former band The Police recorded an album Ghost In The Machine, continued: "I was in bed one night, a very old house I used to live in. And I woke up at three in the morning, bolt upright, looked into the corner of the room and thought I saw Trudie standing there with a child - our child - in her arms, staring at me.

"And I thought 'well, that's strange - why is she standing in a corner, staring at me?'. And I then reached next to me and there was Trudie, and I suddenly got this terrible chill. And she woke up and said 'Gosh, who is that?' and she saw this woman and a child in the corner of the room."

Sting told presenter Claudia Winkleman, in an interview to be broadcast tomorrow night at 10pm, that the figure simply disappeared.

He added: "A lot of things happened in that house, a lot of flying objects and voices and strange, strange things happened.

"When you live in old houses you get this energy there. Intellectually, no I don't believe in them (ghosts), but I've experienced them on an emotional level."

There are some stories out there that make you go.

Made me think of what I read on the Dutch news yesterday. About a woman here in Holland who went to the police station to report that when she woke up there was a man that she didn't know at all laying in her bed dead beside her.
A complete mystery.

I'll try to find a link from it though it will be in Dutch ofcourse.

But can you imagine that happening? Waking up and there suddenly is laying a dead mystery man beside you in your bed?

Here are two links to the story. They are in Dutch but they tell the story of her finding an unknown to her, dead man in her bed. And she has no idea how he got there.
She went to the police station herself that was across the street of all places.

The donkey story is funny.

Since my last holidays (2 weeks ago) I've started slowly reading again the complete collection of 60 Sherlock Holmes stories (7 books). I'm on the middle of the fourth and for sure this dutch story could fit in one of the A.C. Doyle's stories.
First step will be of course to identify the guy. Really weird especially because from what I understood the woman's house is close by the police station.

OK people, this one I found some months ago on a portuguese web-site. I used Google translator so indulge me if the translation is not perfect.

Ten absurd deaths

1. To embrace the reflection of the moon
The Chinese poet Li Po is considered one of the two major figures of the history of Chinese literary. He was well known for being a heavy drinker and it is also known that he wrote many of his greatest poems while drunk. And drunk he was was the night he fell from his boat and drowned in the river Yangt-ze simply because he was trying to embrace the moon's reflection in the water.


2. Though the beard
Austrian Hans Steininger was famous for having the longest beard in the world (nearly five feet) and because he die because of it. One day in 1567 there was a fire in his city and on the trail Hans forgot to wrap his beard, stepped on it, lost his balance, tripped and broke his neck.


3. By holding the pee
The noble and the Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe was an interesting and eccentric character. He had a trained moose as a pet and also lost the tip of his nose in a duel with another Danish nobleman and had to use a false nose made of silver and gold, but that's another story. It is said that Tycho had to hold off the urge to go to the bathroom during a banquet particularly extensive in 1601 (getting up in the middle of a dinner was considered as something really offensive), so much so that your bladder, taken to the limit, developed an infection for which he died. Further analysis suggested that Tycho died in reality by mercury poisoning, but this conclusion is not as interesting as the original story...


4. Through the baton of the orchestra
While conducting a symphony for the French King Louis XIV in 1687, Jean Baptiste Lully was so focused on keeping the rhythm by striking a stick against the floor (this was the usual method before they started using the baton), that he crushed the thumb foot but refused to stop. The wound turned into a gangrene, but the stubborn Lully refused to amputate it. The gangrene spread and the conductor died. Ironically, the hymn that he was driving was in celebration of the restoration of Louis XIV from an illness.


5. For dessert
Adolph Frederic King of Sweden loved to eat and died because of it. Known as "The king that has eaten to death," died in 1771 aged 61 because of a digestive problem after eating, literally, "more than the belly." The dinner was composed of greedy lobster, caviar, sauerkraut, cabbage soup, smoked deer, champagne and fourteen milk puddings stuffed with almonds, his favorite treat.


6. By demonstrating to the jury
After the U.S. civil war, a controversial politician Clement Vallandigham of Ohio, became a successful lawyer who rarely lost a case. In 1871 he defended Thomas McGehan, accused of shooting a guy named Tom Myers during a quarrel in a bar. Vallandigham's defense was based on that Myers had shot against himself while wielding his pistol when he was kneeling. To convince the jury, Vallandigham decided to demonstrate his theory. Unfortunately, he used by mistake a loaded pistol and ended up shooting him even proving the theory of accidental shooting and getting exonerate his client.


7. By biting his tongue
Allan Pinkerton, famous for creating the detective agency that bore his name, died of an infection after biting his tongue slipped when on the street.


8. Though the thumb
One 1911 morning, the famous whiskey distiller Jack Daniel decided to go to work earlier. He wanted to open his safe but could not remember the combination. Enraged, Daniel punched the safe and broke the big toe that became infected causing his death.


9. Because of an orange peel
Bobby Leach was not afraid to challenge the death and in 1911 he was the second person in the world to survive a fall in a barrel at Niagara Falls. He accomplished many feats of this kind, and that's why his death is especially ironic. Walking along a street of New Zealand, Leach slipped on a piece of orange peel. He broke his leg that had to be amputated. He died due to complications from surgery.


10. For failure of the parachute
In 1911, the French tailor Franz Reichelt decided to test his invention, a combination of above with a parachute, jumping from the Eiffel Tower. He told the authorities that he would use a dummy, but in the last minute he decided to prove it himself. His invention did not work.

It could indeed one of those stories. All they know, or what the police say at this moment is that the man is from Algeria.

Yes the police station was across the street of her house. She walked in there herself and told the police she found a dead man in her bed. A man she never saw before.

It's a sad story cause a life is lost.
And it's a very very weird story.

Horrible. Indeed. These kind of horrors have happened over the centuries, but there are more people and the NEWS....so it seems worse. It's never worse...how could it be. As Johnny Echols once said, I can think of no better or worse word for it but "SAD". It's just sad.

Two crates of Scotch whisky which belonged to the polar explorer Ernest Shackleton are to be recovered after a century buried in the Antarctic ice.

The McKinlay and Co whisky was found buried under a hut built and used during Shackleton's unsuccessful South Pole expedition between 1907 and 1909.

The crates, which are encased in ice, were first found three years ago.
New Zealand Antarctic Heritage Trust plans to use special cutting tools to remove the crates from the ice.

The crates and bottles are expected to undergo conservation work in New Zealand before being returned to the remote hut at Cape Royds, which the trust is trying to restore to the same condition as when Shackleton's team left it.
Trust spokesman Al Fastier said he would not be tempted to sample the Scotch, saying he preferred to allow the century-old spirits to retain their mystique.
"It would be terrible to sample it and find that it was off," he told Radio New Zealand.

Distillers Whyte and Mackay, which owns the McKinlay brand, are keen to get hold of a bottle, or at least a sample of the now-extinct blend.

The company's master blender Richard Paterson said: "We might even get enough to be able to take a stab at recreating it."

Shackleton's expedition ran short of supplies on its long trek to the South Pole from Cape Royds.

They eventually fell about 100 miles (160 kilometres) short of their goal, although one team did reach the magnetic South Pole and the expedition carried out valuable scientific work.

No lives were lost, vindicating Shackleton's decision to turn back from the pole, which was first reached in 1911 by Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen.
Shackleton later said to his wife: "A live donkey is better than a dead lion, isn't it?"

The expedition's ship left Cape Royds hurriedly in March 1909 as winter ice began forming in the sea, with some equipment and supplies, including the whisky, left behind.

"I personally think they must have been left there by mistake, because it's hard to believe two crates would have been left under the hut without drinking them," Mr Fastier said.

It also emerged that criminals from Hungary and Romania were involved in the crime and that private investigators and security companies had been involved in the search for the coffin without telling police.

"This is a large case of blackmail that was carried out very professionally, although it involved a rather unusual instrument — a coffin," said Ernst Geiger, the organized crime chief at Austria's equivalent of FBI.

Winston Churchill once predicted that it would be possible to grow chicken breasts and wings more efficiently without having to keep an actual chicken. And in fact scientists have since figured out how to grow tiny nuggets of lab meat and say it will one day be possible to produce steaks in vats, sans any livestock.

Pork chops or burgers cultivated in labs could eliminate contamination problems that regularly generate headlines these days, as well as address environmental concerns that come with industrial livestock farms.

However, such research opens up strange and perhaps even disturbing possibilities once considered only the realm of science fiction. After all, who knows what kind of meat people might want to grow to eat?

I have sen some weird stuff in the medical field
Most of which involve foreign objects in the rectum, or things kids have swallowed, but one time when I worked a hospital, this kid had a roach in his ear.

I had girlfriend who told me that while a kid she went to the hospital with a peanut in her nose. But I guess this is trivial comparing it with a roach.
